News From Insurance Commissioner Matthew Denn

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 31, 2008

Delaware Deputy Insurance Commissioner Vild To Leave Department

DoverDeputy Insurance Commissioner Michael Vild will leave the Delaware Department of Insurance, Insurance Commissioner Matt Denn said Monday. Vild’s last day with the department is April 11.

Vild, who has served as the deputy insurance commissioner since Commissioner Denn took office in January 2005, will become general counsel at the Delaware Park racetrack and gaming venue near Christiana. Prior to 2005, Vild was an attorney and partner with The Bayard Firm in Wilmington.

“In a relatively short time, Mike became a well-known and well-liked voice within the regulatory community, both in Delaware and nationally. His judgment and his skills as a mediator and negotiator served the Department well in dealing with a number of complex issues and cases over the last few years,” Commissioner Denn said. “Mike has been my friend for a very long time and will continue to be, and I know this new position is a great fit for him. But we will certainly miss his influence in the Department as I finish my term.”

Vild said his new position will combine his legal background with his interest in horses, which he and his family raise, ride and train.

“I’m truly excited about joining Delaware Park – it is an opportunity just too good for me to pass up. At the same time, I am disappointed to be leaving my friend Matt Denn and the fine people at the Delaware Department of Insurance,” Vild said. “I’m leaving the most interesting job I’ve ever had.”
