Denn Proposes New Regulations For Faster Payment Of Health Care Providers
Designed to Lower Cost of Health Care
Newark - On his second day as Delaware's Insurance Commissioner, Commissioner Matt Denn announced that he had submitted a new set of prompt payment regulations governing health insurers. Denn, who took office Tuesday but will have a formal swearing-in ceremony January 10, proposed regulations, designed to reduce costs for Delaware's health care providers, were praised by members of the health care community
Under the new set of regulations proposed by Denn, health insurance companies will no longer be able to decree that health care providers' claims are incomplete, and repeatedly send those claims back for more information. Instead, health care providers who fill out standardized forms . will be deemed to have submitted complete claims, and insurance companies will be able to be request additional information only once.
"This new regulation is step one in my effort to reduce health care costs for Delawareans," Denn said. "It is my hopes that by reducing the cost of doing business for health care providers; we will allow them to pass along some of that savings to their patients."
Denn's proposed regulations were praised by a variety of health care professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, and chiropractors.
Dr. Steven Edell, director of the Delaware Imaging Center, said "The new regulations proposed by Commissioner Denn will have a real and positive impact on the cost of doing business for health care providers. I welcome the changes."
The regulation proposed by Commissioner Denn will be published for public comment, and then finalized after the public comment period if no major changes are made.
