DELAWARE INSURANCE DEPT. - ARBITRATION
Having Problems with your Insurance Company/Adjuster?
Any insurance company licensed in Delaware is subject to arbitration by the Insurance Commissioner's Office. You can file for an arbitration hearing regarding automobile, homeowners, and health insurance. The cost of arbitration is shared equally by the consumer and the insurance company. If you win in arbitration, the filing fee may be reimbursed as part of the settlement award. The hearing is informal and conducted by a panel consisting of one attorney and two licensed adjusters appointed by the Commissioner. The hearings are held at locations convenient to you, the claimant.
Some consumers prefer to talk with a Consumer Services Investigator in person and be present when the insurance company is called to settle the problem. While it is not required, we suggest you call first to make an appointment with a representative to avoid an unnecessary wait. To ensure a swift investigation, please bring your insurance policy and any correspondence with your insurance company/adjuster (including phone notes) you may have from when you tried to resolve the conflict yourself.
Our office is located at 841 Silver Lake Boulevard, in Dover (click here for directions) and is open Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
